Against the popular belief that a student of English can only become a teacher or a translator, I decided to try my hand at the internship at Pearson IOKI. I have had the pleasure of temping here before as a content tester and I knew that it is a job that really satisfies me.
At my first day I was greeted by Natalia, Content Creation Specialist, who was appointed my internship supervisor and she has been looking after me since, consulting substantive issues with me. Natalia prepared a short introduction to corporate life for me and introduced me to Marcin, the head of the department I was going to work for; namely – Content Creation. After a while, Dominika from the administration department took me for a tour around the company to introduce me to another employees and to show me where is everything.
I have been assigned to work on the New Student Experience project, which is the most innovative and revolutionary project in the Content Creation department. Work on the NSE is carried out together with our fellow office in India. This project is a great example that it is possible to work well with teams located in different time zones, if you have a well-developed methods and work culture.
My tasks so far have included authoring content on the platform and review of the content. Everything in cooperation with a great people from my team, who are always ready to answer any of my questions. The opportunity to participate in creation of such a revolutionary English learning platform is an amazing experience and I am really glad I can be a part of it. Moreover, NSE task are enhanced with movies and audio files, which not only make the New Student Experience platform more attractive for students, but also make the work on the project very entertaining for our team.
However, the internship in Pearson IOKI does not only include creation of the content but also a bunch of interesting courses and workshops through which I am able to gain new knowledge and experience. The courses include Agile, publishing processes or editing in GIMP. The workshop I attended regarded the job market and it provided me with some great advice on how to present myself as a valuable candidate for a job.
The internship at Pearson IOKI not only expanded (and are still expanding) my knowledge about the publishing process of e-learning materials but also showed me how amazing working with a great team you can count on is. It is amazing I can count on the people working with me and that everyone is so engaged and full of energy and new ideas. I would recommend the work at Pearson IOKI to anyone looking for an interesting and rewarding internship and is ready to try their hand at a large multinational company operating with the precision of a Swiss watch.
